The union is accusing the Bok coach of “making a reversal to white preference”. Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has come under fire from the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu), which accuses him of ill-treating black players.
Erasmus has picked eight players of colour in his matchday 23 for Saturday’s clash against the All Blacks in Wellington, the least he’s selected since his first match in charge.
Erasmus’ team selection slammed by Cosatu
Cosatu has blasted his team selection, accusing him of treating black players as “second class”.
“His starting line-up for Saturday is a reversal to white preference players, which exposes his attitude towards black players,” Cosatu said in a statement.
Erasmus came under heavy criticism after last weekend’s defeat to Australia for hauling hooker Bongi Mbonambi after just 35 minutes on the field.

Cosatu accused the coach of undermining the player and singled out Faf de Klerk, Handre Pollard and Willie le Roux, who are all set to start despite “playing poorly” – as well as flanker Francois Louw who has been named on the bench – for being given preferential treatment.
“Mbonambi is substituted on 35 minutes which is entirely irrational and designed to undermine him. Many black players when they do get a chance on the field are played out of their positions, to deny them the prospect to bring their best skills.”
The union said Erasmus was failing in his two jobs as coach and director of rugby, accusing him of being erratic in his team selection and game plan.
“Cosatu is raising this concern with SARU before it gets worse and embarrasses the whole country so that decisive action can be taken. Whilst Cosatu would encourage South Africans to support the Springboks, Rassie is pushing black South Africans away from the team with his discriminatory attitude and actions.”
